Ali Abbas Zafar at IFFI Goa 2016

Ali Abbas Zafar is a Hindi film director and screenwriter. He started off as an assistant director for Yash Raj Films and then made his own directorial and screenwriting debut with the 2011 romantic comedy Mere Brother Ki Dulhan. The film was met with positive reviews.

His next film Gunday (2014) was an action drama which was set in Calcutta in the 1970’s and 1980’s. Starring Ranveer Singh, Arjun Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra, the film was a success at the box office.

Zafar’s next venture Sultan turned out to be one of the highest grossing Indian films.

Sultan is a 2016 blockbuster sports drama starring Salman Khan and Anushka Sharma. It is based on the life of a fictional Haryana based wrestler and a mixed martial arts specialist Sultan Ali Khan. The film was a massive hit and received favorable reviews from critics as well.

Sultan was selected in the Indian Panorama section at IFFI Goa 2016.
