Sound of music to regale IFFI

If the French have blown you away with their sophistication and charm, belt yourself up to the seat for a laugh riot threatening to break lose with the arrival of the star cast of `Dubai Return.’ Set in Dubai, the movie is your getaway on making a fast buck as actors Irrfan Khan, Ritu Shivpuri, Divya Dutta manipulate quick escapades towards a fast, rich life. Directed by Aditya Bhattacharya and produced by Manya Patil, all hell breaks lose today at the Inox, 12.15pm with the arrival of the brat-pack for a preview show. Great music, stylized screenplay and much gloss make for a Bollywood popcorn break.
Polish those suede shoes as dancers Jason & Sylvia fox-trot at the Children’s Park today between 4.00pm and 7.00pm while `Asterix & Obelix’ get the crowds going at Caranzalem in a Hindi dubbed version of the French masterpiece. Sounds like fun.
And if that’s not enough, `Goa Music Day’ on December 4 promises to take music all over Goa, with local musicians, artistes, solos, duos, trios, karaoke, dance, folkdances from Indi-Pop to classical to western, jazz etc., performing multi-lingual programmes at 101 public places, in an effort to unite Goa through a single thread of rhythm and sound. The action sets off between 4.00pm and 6.00pm at Margao, Ponda, Bambolim, Candolim, Calangute, Panjim ferry, Vasco, Verna, Majorda, Orlim, Navelim, Benaulim, Baina and so on, at public places giving platforms for local talent in the display of musical artistry. Awesome in its concept and presentation, `Goa Music Day’ is a celebration of the Goan way of life through her musically inclined talented sons and daughters, finally culminating into a mega concert at Caranzalem to laser shows and big sound featuring Sudesh Bhonsale, Oliver Sean, Sagarika, Shivani Kashyap, Australian singer Ayesha, DJ Platinum, Band of Boys and the stars and music composers of `Dubai Return.’ Enough to get the crowd rocking, what say?
If music be your guide, let art be your driving force. Subodh Kerkar’s `Sea & See’ at Candolim Beach invites children to come create their own installations in the sands of time, with their own materials between 4.00pm to 6.00pm on December 4. Make your statement and win a prize, urges the artist.
Plenty of action coming up this weekend. Get those walking shoes ready.

Joaquim Alemao, Minister for Urban Development

“IFFI is good this year, but next year we should do it better. IFFI has got Goa in the spotlight in the eyes of the world. This is what we need. Because finally Goa is a tourist destination, and if tourists are happy, it’s a good sign.”
