Incentives for Entertainment Industry

The Entertainment Policy is in the process of formulation and will be finalised soon. Accordingly it is proposed in the Budget Speech 2004-05 to offer following incentives to public theatres for upgradation of their infrastructure.

The incentives for public theatres would form part of the Entertainment Policy.

  1. An interest free loan of upto Rs.3 crore per cinema hall/theatre in respect of theatres in Panaji, upto Rs.1.5crore in respect of theatres in Madgaon, Vasco, Mapusa and Ponda and upto Rs.50 lakhs in other areas, for development and upgradation of physical infrastructure. The loan would be repayable within a period of 7 years.

  2. Reimbursement of entertainment tax collected by theatres as subsidy on 100% basis for a period of 5 years.
Accord the status of industry for purposes of electricity and water tariffs. The incentives/concessions at 2 and 3 above shall also be applicable to new theatres/multiplexes that may come up in future. A detailed scheme will be announced soon.
