Synopsis:  This Telugu-language film set in coastal Andhra Pradesh, revolves around 14-year-old Vanaja (Bhukya), the spirited daughter of a low-caste, drink-addicted fisherman who can barely earn his keep. A soothsayer tells Vanaja she will be a great dancer one day. The girl manages to get a job as a house maid to the landlady-danseuse Rama Devi (Urmila Dammannagari), who sees her potential and starts teaching her the Kuchipudi dance form. Rama Devi’s son Shekhar (Karan Singh) returns from America to pursue a career in politics. Sexual sparks between him and Vanaja are ignited by the latter’s defiant nature. He rapes her. She gets pregnant and leaves her job. Vanaja doggedly seeks revenge but at every turn, her plotting to do so fails. She branches out on her own, sustained by her undaunted spirit of survival. Domalpalli has selected real-life locations and used untrained locals which help to give the film a natural authenticity.
