Synopsis: Set in late 70s and early 80s , this film harks back to a recessed, verdant little village in North India. This village is Asha's world (Meneka Das not only directs but plays the lead role of Asha). Whatever Asha knows and wants is right here in her modest existence, with her grand parents and her soul-mate friend, Lalli (Sheenu Das). Then Seth (Joe Anderson) comes along, the handsome son of an Indian Commissioner and his wife, Sheila, the beautiful daughter of a British missionary. Asha and Seth’s common love for poetry draws them closer, awakening Asha to be more like him and strive for a better future. Seth returns to his medical schooling in England, leaving a bereft Asha caught between two different worlds. The unspoken relationship with her grandfather, a man of few words, stands as a constant reminder of life's failures. Driven by her zest of life and passion to survive, Ashe challenges the system, fighting to keep her dream of both love and life alive. The film is shot in and near the city of Allahabad, bringing to life a range of characters from different backgrounds and a small fading Anglo Indian community. The common thread of love, friendship, celebrations and tears underlines this debut work by a director recalling her own days of growing up and breaking free. The film has been shot in 16mm.
