Director: Tirpurari Sharan
Tripurari Sharan (Director): Tripurari Sharan (b.1961) graduated from St. Stephan’s College, New Delhi and took his Master’s degree in Sociology from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi in 1984. He joined the Indian Administrative Service in 1985 in Bihar Cadre where he served, after initial training in the Mussoorie Academy of Administration, from 1986 to December, 1997 in various capacities such as Deputy Commissioner of Development, District Magistrate, Joint Secretary in the Home Department and Director in the Department of Labour and Employment. During his tenure in Bihar he also attended the National Management Programme in the year 1995-1996 at the Management Development Institute in Gurgaon. This programme, run in academic collaboration with J.L. Kellogg School of Management (USA) and with support from Govt. of India and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), led to the award of MBA degree where he was also the Gold Medalist.
For the past six years, Sharan worked in the Govt. of India, first as Director in Charge of the Military Operations and Intelligence Wing in the Ministry of Defense and later as Private Secretary to Minister of State for Railways and, subsequently, Minister of State for External Affairs. Sharan has travelled extensively to more than 40 countries around the world in his official as well as private tours, some of which related to the leading film festivals such as Montreal, Cannes, Cairo, Palm Springs and San Jose, etc.
Tripurari Sharan was actively involved, as an actor as well as director, with theatre on the Delhi stage during his years in college and university, with various professional as well amateur groups. He was also a prolific writer on cinema, as a research student in Sociology, and later on also during the early years in the civil service. During his years in service, he has been associated with filmmakers like Prakash Jha and Anwar Jamal. With the latter, he also collaborated on his award winning film `Swaraj.’
