*Pop Extravaganza, Konkani concert at IFFI 2006

Synopsis: Goa, Monday, November 27, 2006: Day 5 of the 37th International Film Festival of India (IFFI 2006) was one of the most exciting yet! Day 5 began on a high note with the cast and producer of Waris Shah attending the film’s screening. The screening, featured as a homage to director Manoj Punj, was attended by popular actors Juhi Chawla, Gurdas Mann, Divya Datta and producer Manjit Mann and was appreciated by the audience in a packed theater.
Along with the homage section, acclaimed movies from France (Selon Charlie), Italy (As the Shadow), Russia (Dreaming of Space), Argentina (Clara’s Gaze) and several Indian films like Mirch Masala and Ardh Satya were also showcased. The Open Forum for Day 5 saw a discussion on ‘Films on Heroes of Freedom Struggle’, where producer Ramesh Deo, director Gajendra Ahire, writer Gautam Kaul, R.K Verma and M.S. Sathyu debated on the same. The session held at Kala Academy was moderated by Shankar Mohan.Prior to several screenings, the film’s casts and crew interacted with audiences and shared special moments that went into the making of their films. These included movies like the John Jeffcoat directed ‘Outsourced’ and Kruti Majumdar’s ‘Memsahib’, where actors Pravin Dabas and Emily Hamilton enjoyed the screening along with the director. Day 5 also saw the screening of ‘Maati Maay’ with producer-director, Chitra Palekar and actors Nandita Das and Atul Kulkarni. The highlight of the day, however, was an incredible performance titled, Pop Extravaganza, a Konkani concert held at the NIWS Ground at Caranzalem. The extravaganza included breathtaking performances by renowned singers Kunal Ganjawala, Shreya Ghoshal, Vinod Rathod and others celebrated performers. Thousands of delegates and fans could be seen enjoying the picturesque locale and a power packed performance. The applause and shouts for encores were the fruits of a series of inspired performances by the talented performers. Hand in hand with the screenings and performances were the entertainment segments that went on throughout the day across the city. The packed schedule on Day 5 encompassed a variety of events like street animation and music bands on Corniche Street and rides and interactive games at the Children’s Park. The dance competition for children, 'Tak Dhinak Dhin’continued on Day 5 on the now familiar Krrish Stage and the film ‘Pandavas – The Five Warriors’ was also screened. The mobile screening schedule for Day 5 included the screening of Khosla ka Ghosla at St. Alex Church Ground, Curtorim, Swadesh at Davorlim and Bas Ek Pal at Mapusa. With the Film Festival half over, the exciting events scheduled over the coming days include enthralling performances by Sonu Nigam, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and Boney M.
