POLICE PRESS NOTE

"The International Film Festival of India – 2006 will be held from 23rd November 2006 to 3rd December 2006. In view of the same, following temporary changes in circulation of vehicular traffic within Panaji city will be done to ensure congestion free movement of vehicular traffic during the festival period.

1. The entry in Panaji will be from old Patto Bridge, only on inaugural day till the end of float parade, and through new Patto Bridge thereafter and on other days, as usual.

2. On Inaugural day, traffic will be diverted at 1300 hrs, and on reaching behind old Secretariat, will proceed from Jose Falcao Road to Church Square and then proceed to their respective destination.

3. The exiting traffic on inaugural day only will leave the city through D.B. Marg taking left turn near Bandodkar statue and exit through the new Patto Bridge till the pageant parade crosses ferry point, thereafter the traffic will exit normally.

4. On opening day pageant will start at 1500 hrs from Santa Monica jetty and will culminate at 1630 hrs at Parade Ground, Campal well in time before opening ceremony of IFFI at Football Ground, Campal at 1730 hrs.

5. Diversion of traffic will start from 1300 hrs onwards and entire D B Marg will be cleared of parking and vehicular movement.

6. Vehicular traffic coming from Miramar and desiring to go out of Panaji, on reaching Campal Ganesh (D.B. Marg) will be diverted towards Fire Station to come upto St. Inez Junction/Caculo Island and then proceed to new Patto Bridge via M.G. Road taking left turn at Bandodkar statue.

7. Vehicles of residents from Campal area up to Kala Academy will be allowed to enter Campal area from Pharmacy college junction i.e. in front of Shanta building.

8. At market area, the vehicular traffic from market will not be allowed to enter D.B. Marg to proceed towards Miramar and instead will join MG road near Don Bosco and exit towards St Inez.

9. The INOX lane (General Bernard Guedes Road) i.e. road leading to D.B. Marg from Panaji market along INOX complex will be closed near new market complex for entire period of 10 days.

10. On Normal Days i.e. from 24th Nov. to 2nd December, the traffic from Panaji bus stand towards Miramar will take the normal route, however there will be strict No Parking/No halting along D.B. Marg from Dempo House to Kala Academy. Therefore this segment of D.B. Marg will be a ‘Drive through Road’ only.

11. However, from 1700 hrs to 2100 hrs everyday, D.B. Marg will be closed for general traffic near ferry point and at Kala Academy.

12. Out going traffic from city/Miramar will be permitted to follow road from Campal Ganesh, Fire Station, St. Inez junction, M.G. Road and join D.B. Marg from Geeta Bakery/ 2STC HQ on S.V. Road.

13. During the D.B. Marg closure period the vehicles already on D.B. Marg and in market area will be permitted to exit towards Panaji Bus Stand side.

14. As there will be restriction on movement of vehicular traffic on D.B. Marg from 1700 hrs to 2100 hrs along this route, the bus stops along this road are re-aligned for temporary period. The Market Bus Stop to new place near Don Bosco High School. Similarly Bus Stop at Ferry Wharf is realigned at Azad Maidan and the Bus Stop at Campal is realigned beyond St. Inez junction.

15. During the period from 23/11/2006 to 03/12/2006 all the buses having permit to enter the city from different places are restricted upto the KTC Bus Stand. Only the city buses and buses to Dona Paula and Taleigao will be permitted to enter the city.

16. Entire M.G. Road is notified as No Parking zone on both sides from 23rd November 2006 to 3rd December 2006 (except the Bus Stops) everyday from 1700 hrs to 2100 hrs.

All motorists are requested to follow the diversions while entering and exiting Panaji City and to co-operate with Traffic Police to ease the traffic congestion to avoid inconveniences to the motorist and other road users.
