Synopsis: In the swashbuckling adventure fantasy, the star, N. T. Rama Rao, plays the role of a poor gardener, Ramudu, who falls in love with a princess (Malati). His efforts are thwarted by a crazed sorcerer, unforgettably played by S. V. Ranga Rao, who intends to offer Ramudu as a sacrifice to the goddess, Pathala Bhairavi. Through various escapades including fighting a cursed crocodile, the hero eventually outwits the sorcerer. With widely loved music composed by Ghantasala Venkateswara Rao, the film, which was simultaneously made in Telugu and Tamil, created new records of commercial success during the period.


Directors Bio: K. V. Reddy (1912 - 1972) began his career in cinema as an assistant to the pioneering filmmaker H. M. Reddi. During his long association with the legendary Vauhini Studios in the 1940s, he directed the saint films, Bhakta Potana (1943) and Yogi Vemana (1947), starring Chittor Nagaiah. Reddy’s masterful command over epic-scaled spectaculars in films such as Gundamma Katha (1949), Pathala Bhairavi (1951) and Mayabazar (1957) established his continuing influence on generations of filmmakers. His Filmography also includes Pedda Manushulu (1954) and Donga Ramudu (1955) among others.
