Synopsis: When a charming 12-year-old girl takes on the characteristics and voices of others, doctors say there is nothing they can do. As people begin to die, the girl’s mother realizes her daughter has been possessed by the devil—and that her daughter’s only possible hope lies with exorcism. The director's cut of The Exorcist incorporates an additional 10 minutes of footage, updated CGI effects, and a subtly different ending that impacts the overall narrative. These changes were made under the supervision of director the late William Friedkin. They were implemented, in part, to reconcile the differing interpretations of writer and director. William Peter Blatty viewed The Exorcist as a tale of faith triumphing over evil. In contrast, Friedkin was a skeptic and saw film as an allegory for the inescapable evils of society's past ugliness. The disparities between the two cuts reflect this divide between the writer and director.

Directors Bio: William Friedkin, American film director who was best known for The French Connection (1971) won Oscar, 1972 and The Exorcist (1973). Friedkin’s subsequent credits included the television movies C.A.T. Squad (1986) and C.A.T. Squad: Python Wolf (1988). After the supernatural The Guardian (1990), Friedkin found modest success with the basketball drama Blue Chips (1994), which starred Nick Nolte and NBA star Shaquille O’Neal. He later returned to the subject of exorcism with the documentary The Devil and Father Amorth (2017), about the chief exorcist in Rome and one of his last cases.
