Synopsis : The cinematic portrayal, "Virangana Rani Durgavati of Gond Tribe," produced by the Indira Gandhi National Center for the Arts and directed by Ashok Sharan, commemorates the 500th birth anniversary of the courageous Queen Durgavati, hailing from the Gond tribe. Born on October 5, 1524, in Kalinjar to Chandela ruler Kriti Singh, she later married King Dalpat Shah of the Gond tribe, assuming control of the Gondwana Empire upon his demise. Despite the empire's economic prosperity, it faced numerous assaults, notably from Baz Bahadur and Mughal forces commanded by Asaf Khan. Queen Durgavati valiantly defended her kingdom against 17 attacks by Baz Bahadur and thwarted Asaf Khan's invasions three times. Tragically, betrayal by Badan Singh, a trusted advisor, led to her ultimate sacrifice as she found herself surrounded by the Mughal army. This historical narrative unfolds a poignant chapter in the life of a resolute queen who defied formidable adversaries for the sovereignty of her realm.
