IFFI is an annual event organized by National Film Development Corporation of India Ltd (NFDC), Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India in collaboration with the State Government of Goa through Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) and the Indian Film Industry.

The Films Wing of the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting administers the Cinematograph Act, 1952 which looks into certification of films for public exhibition, import of films for theatrical and non-theatrical viewing, export of Indian films, import of unexposed cinematograph films and various types of equipment required by the film industry, all matters relating to film industry, including developmental and promotional activities thereto, promotion of good cinema by institution of State awards for films produced in India and assistance through the National Film Development Corporation Limited, production and distribution of documentaries and newsreels and other films and film strips for internal and external publicity, preservation of films and filmic materials, organization of International Film Festivals in India and participation of India in International Film Festivals abroad, organization of Film Festivals under Cultural Exchange Programmes etc.

Over the years NFDC has worked with some of the most acclaimed filmmakers of India including Satyajit Ray, Mira Nair, Aparna Sen, Shyam Benegal, Govind Nihalani, Mrinal Sen, Richard Attenborogh, Adoor Gopalkrishnan and Ketan Mehta. It is breaking new grounds by co-producing projects involving public-private partnerships.

NFDC facilitates line production services of shooting in India and animation services of overseas clients. It also organizes Film Bazaar India- a co-production and distribution market for the South Asian region alongside the International Film Festival of India, Goa.

Ever since its founding in 2004, Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) has hosted various National and International Film Festivals. It also provides permission for film shooting across the State of Goa on behalf of Government of Goa.

ESG has made efforts to conduct educational lectures and courses that benefit creative minds and has a Cinephile Club for film enthusiasts. ESG through its various attempts provides platform to all interested in the field of creativity to showcase their talents with new perspective.
