Upon hearing her beloved grandmother is dying, a young woman returns to rural Lithuania, where she must confront a past she’s tried to forget. Sharunas Bartas unflinchingly examines family fractures, capturing unspoken tensions and simmering resentments within an isolated rural household.
Sarunas Bartas is one of the most internationally prominent Lithuanian film directors from the late 20th century. He was educated in directing at the Moscow Film Institute VGIK, after which he made his debut with Three Days (1992), which brought him the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury at Cannes. He has won two FIPRESCI Awards, for both Three Days and The Corridor (1995). He was present at multiple editions of the Cannes Film Festival, with his film Peace to Us in Our Dreams (2015) having been screened in Director’s Fortnight in 2015 and In the Dusk being part of the Official Selection at Cannes in 2020.
