De Tal Palo is the heartfelt story of Don Manuel, a retired grandfather who gains legal custody of his 9-year-old granddaughter, Irene, after her mother is brutally assaulted by her husband. For Don Manuel, this marks a dramatic shift in his daily life. Despite many challenges, he and Irene manage to build a deep and loving family bond, all while Manuel begins to show the first signs of a health condition.
Ivan is a Puerto Rican filmmaker with over 30 years of experience in the local film industry. Throughout his decades-long career, he has worked as a director, writer, and editor on feature films as well as television commercials. His filmography includes the direction and production of award-winning Puerto Rican feature films Héroes de Otra Patria and El Cimarrón, both recognized at international film festivals. Notably, Héroes de Otra Patria represented Puerto Rico at the Academy Awards in 1999, and the Lincoln Center Film Society selected it as one of the best Latin American films of 2000.
