Having just moved to a rural, Japanese town, Elena, a “half” Japanese high school girl, feels out of place because of her foreign appearance and name. Troubled by a sense she doesn't belong, Elena struggles under the constant attention of those around her. She soon discovers that she is also being watched by something else—a monster that can only be seen through her smartphone and whose sounds can only be heard through her earphones. Life will never be the same for Elena, when the invisible monster begins its hunt.
Based in Japan, film director and screenwriter Masaki Nishiyama began creating films independently at the age of 14. While in high school, his first short film was selected for the Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia 2019, one of the largest short film festivals in Asia. “The Invisible Half”, filmed when he was 23, marks his feature film directorial debut and the film had its world premiere at the 33rd Raindance Film Festival. In 2025, his latest film “Influencer Ghost” will be released under the new Gemstone Creative Label, launched by TOHO, Japan’s largest film studio.
